With its 90 hectares, the Miraflores Park is the green area in the wider metropolitan area of our city. Located in an area of great historical tradition in which they settled two orchards, the Albarrana and Miraflores, since Roman times, the area, as happened with the Park Celestino Mutis, had become over the years of uncontrolled dumping of container debris. Will be an initiative of the 150,000 residents affected by the situation of the park in 1983 set in motion the process that will culminate in 1987 with the completion of refurbishment works first .. Are still areas to remodel and build zones.
The park of Miraflores with its gentle hills, its different levels, its wide walkways and extensive terraces and the various activities at the site, has become one of the most visited attractions. Accessing it at the south gate are jacaranda trees, oleander trees and fire. A small plaza located on your right leads to one of the many activities that take place in the park, a skating rink. In the islands of vegetation surrounding this track we can find olive trees, palms of luck, pomegranates, gazanias, festivals, small Himalayan cedar, catalpa and feathery coconuts.
From the slopes we access the old way of Miraflores, during which we found on both margins and the same: Japanese plum trees of love, pittosporum, locust, barberry, marshmallows and a tree introduced a new way in equity City virens Ficus (Ficus infectoria). This brings us to another of the park gates giving access to a magnificent tree lined formed by hackberry. Leaving aside this tour and pushing back into the park we found on our descent to the central stream (old course of Targalete) species such as pines, acacias in Japan, elm, a bay of pigs and a large eucalyptus.
Arrived at the artificial channel created to recover the identity of the area, note the presence of a lake that is going around offering plane trees, locust trees, reeds (Phragmites australis) and tamarisk. From here we begin to climb accompanied by pinyon pine, black acacia, carob, sticks roses, mulberries until you reach the lake boy. In this area, from which you can see most of the park, find the path that leads us to the Albarrana, reconstructed building, where we find an old wheel. Joining him are black wattles and a large mulberry tree and other species.
The area in which we divided into plots where they grow rosemary, lavender, mastic or pear. Beside it will lock the House of the Mulberry, about 400 years old. Next to her and found another surprise of many of the activities that take place in this park, the Leisure Huertas. A fairly large area where residents grow vegetables. Finding a little beyond school gardens.
From here we passed an old dryer snuff and we found another old building, the Cortijo de Miraflores, which still retains a medieval tower. Crossing the channel by the only bridge that has survived from that saved the old stream. Accompanied by poplars and hackberry finished the tour of the park.
Strongly rooted in the social environment that surrounds it and which allowed its completion, the Miraflores Park is today, the essential core of that community. In it, through various programs that address the socio-educational needs of the inhabitants of the area, we can see as develop social skills, relationships between neighbors and integration, thus transcending the activity of the park to recover the identity of the people of the district.
